The Dead Weather

I found a $10 iTunes gift card, which made me pretty happy. But I really don't use iTunes that much. I prefer Amoeba (local record store).

Jack White sarted yet another band, The Dead Weather. They are pretty good. I got a free song through SPIN magazine.

Allison Mosshart from the Kills is the vocalist.
Dean Fertita from Queen of the Stone Age is the guitarist.
Jack Lawrence from The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes is the bassist.
And Jack White does drums and vocals.

I missed Jenny Lewis last night and the night before at the Fillmore. I was supposed to go but could not find anyone to go with. What a shame. Maybe I will go to BFD then and have more money to buy a band merchandise, like a nice Yeah Yeah Yeahs shirt. Or Crystal Castles. I am running out of clothes that I actually like to wear. I wish I would have had a birthday party this year so I could have added to my LP and CD collection. (It was months ago, by the way.) I mean, what else would people have bought me besides music? I did get a few band tees, but I'm not complaining, they were pretty tight:

Maybe next year I will have a party. Although it was worth seeing Lily Allen this year for my birthday.

I just bought the Acid Tongue by Jenny Lewis LP and the Oh What a Lovely Tour CD/DVD by Babyshambles a few days ago. I haven't had much time to listen to either a lot, but I really like the CD from Oh What a Lovely Tour. Pete's voice sounds great and it is a very well recorded live performance (Glasgow December 1, 2007). The cover for Acid Tongue is a sheet of blotters with Jenny Lewis' face on them. It coves with 2 LPs, but only 3 sides and a CD with all the tracks. Wasteful and bad for the environment to include a CD, but I like have both LP and CD. I don't drive anyway, so not driving a car but buying several CD and LPs, I think I am still doing my part in helping the environment out.

Set list for Oh What a Lovely Tour - Babyshamble like at SECC, Glasgow - December 1, 2007
  1. "Carry On Up The Morning"
  2. "Delivery"
  3. "Beg, Steal Or Borrow"
  4. "Baddies Boogie"
  5. "Unstookie Titled"
  6. "Side Of The Road/Buttercup Sing-A-Long"
  7. "UnBiloTitled"
  8. "The Blinding"
  9. "You Talk"
  10. "Sedative"
  11. "Crumb Begging Baghead"
  12. "Lost Art Of Murder/The Good Old Days"
  13. "There She Goes"
  14. "Albion"
  15. "Pipedown"
  16. "Killamangiro"
  17. "Back From The Dead"
  18. "I Wish"
  19. "Fuck Forever"

I have been trying to figure out the chords to KP Nuts by Pete Doherty, but I am having no luck. I keep picking up my guitar and watching the video in hope of figuring out the few chords I am missing, I have look I think everywhere on the internet for them, and I have even posted "What are the chords to KP Nuts?" on Yahoo Answers. But I still do not know those chords. Someone responded to my Yahoo question with:
"you can look them up on google, or ASK....or typ it in on youtube, and it will most likely pop up."
Oh, of course I didn't look it up on google or youtube before resorting to Yahoo. Who the hell would NOT do that first. That was VERY helpful. Thanks anonymous. Great help. I am just annoyed because I want the chords so damn bad.

Lily Allen

Lily Allen photos!!!!
This gig was a lot more fun than I had expected it to be. I hadn't charged my camera that night so I only got a few photos and none turn out very well. But here are a few anyway.

Acid Tongue and Music Festivals

I am going to see Jenny Lewis next Friday, if I can get some shit done before then. I should be a really cool show. It is in the Fillmore. I have never been there before but I heard it is a really nice venue and is pret
ty small, which I like.

I am very dissappointed in BFD this year:

Outside lands main bands: Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, Incubus, Black Eyed Peas, M.I.A, Jason Mraz, Ween, The Mars Volta, Thievery Corporation, Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, TV on the Radio, Dead Weather, Atmosphere, Tom Jones, Silversun Pickups, The National, Q-Tip

Bumbershoot main bands: Sheryl Crow, Modest Mouse, Katy Perry, Michael Franti & Spearhead, De La Soul, Raphael Saadiq, Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, The Long Winters, Sly & Robbie & the Taxi Gang, World Party, MSTRKRFT, The All-American Rejects, The Ting Tings, Natalie Portman's Shaved Head (they are pretty cool, they opened up for Lily Allen this past tour)

The best line-ups are Lollapolloza, Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Coachella. All either really far away, expensive, or during school. Why do music festivals hate me? They were so nice last year. (Except Warped Tour, as to why I went, I don't even know. It was a very bad decision.) But BFD and Bumbershoot were good last year, not to mention very cheap.

Better luck next year!

Books of Albion

[Books of Albion cover]

Really I am not ridiculously obsessed with the Libertines or Babyshambles. I just like them a lot and have been listening to them a lot recently.

I am reading the Books of Albion. It is a book of Pete Doherty's diaries from 1999 to 2007. His diaries are filled with thoughts, stories (fiction and non-fiction), poetry, songs, photos, drawings, and much more. He is a very talented writer and I absolutely enjoy reading the diaries and recommend them to any strong Pete Doherty fan. His handwriting can be very difficult to read, especially the further into the book you go. I am only at the beginning, but it is very captivating and I just want to sit down and read until I am finished.

You can find some of the Books of Albion on the Babyshambles web site, but I do not recognize any from the site in the book. You can download around 200 pages of his diaries for free here:

Kate Moss is Hot

A few photos of the beautiful and stunning Kate Moss in the music scene alongside Pete Doherty. I wasn't trying to make this a "Kate & Pete dedication." I just love these photos of her.

The Libertines reunion - Pete, Carl, and friends sang "Can't Stand Me Now" as a hundred or so fan gathered outside of this apartment and joined in on the singing.

The Libertines

Carlos Barât Peter Doherty Gary Powell John Hassall
The Libertines is an incredible band. I have not found any other band that have songs composed by two people that feed off each others incredible song writing skills and seem to work so well together (besides Lennon/McCartney of course). I know this is a band I will never look back on and think, "What was I thinking? How could I have ever though this band was simply fantastic?" Because this band seems timeless and I don't think you can deny the genius quality of the poetic and clever lyrics and poetic hooking hooks. Pete Doherty and Carlos Barât are both very talented even though some try to give all the credit to Pete, it is the partnership and relationship between the two that makes the Libertines astounding. I love writing songs and have aspired to be in a band singing since I was 8 after I realized that played soccer on the US national women's team would be nearly impossible. (A similarity between me and Pete. He knew he wanted to be in a band the day he realized that he was never going to play for QPR.) But when I hear the music of the Libertines, I feel that I will never become successful and will never be the smallest fraction as good as they are. But then again, I am setting a very high standard try to be as good as what  consider one of the best bands of our time.

Up the Bracket (2002) is definitely more angst filled, faster, and upbeat. It is a great album if you need to get pumped up for something, or you just want to scream. Still fantastic poetic lyrics, but harder to tell seeing as for most of the songs you are yelling the lyrics very loudly.

I prefer The Libertines (2004) (although I absolutely love them both). It has a greater range of types of songs. Fast, from Carlos' Narcissist to the lovely ballad of Music When the Lights Go Out. But when you throw in the light guitar riff from What Katie Did with "shoop shoop shoop de lang de lang" and the two songs of Pete and Carlos' relationship (Can't Stand Me Now and What Became of the Likely Lads), it adds up to the perfect combination of music. I love how this record sleeve is framed in my room waiting to be mounted on my wall among all of the band photos, Kate Moss photos, and random artsy bits.

How can you argue that the Libertines are not a remarkable band?

Don't La La Me

I am starting this blog in support of my dear friend Katie who has started a fashion blog. She asked me to start a blog so we could do this together. After talking to her and a few others, I have come up with what this blog will be like. I like to think that my life revolves around music, so this blog will be a mix of 'music reviews' and opinions of bands, albums, and songs. The other part of my life revolves around my fixation with Kate Moss and Pete Doherty, so those may come up quite often. Expect several images of Kate looking incredibly beautiful, as always.

While some (Katie) fulfill their pleasures in buying expensive clothes, I buy music and concert tickets. I just calculated that I have spent approximately $85 on anything with Pete Doherty (Libertines, Babayshambles, and solo works). A couple thousand on albums, band merchandise, and concerts combined. Katie want a new pair of sevens, I want 8 more albums.

The name Don't La La Me is a lyrics in the Pete Doherty and Kate Moss song KP Nuts. Pete sings "la la la la la la" in one bit and Kate replies after kicking Pete by laughing "don't la la me!" If you care to watch either, or both:
